My Key Issues for Cologne-Nippes
Housing

Especially in a city full of students like Cologne, sufficient and affordable living space is essential but simply not a given
In order to meet this basic need for all Cologne residents, we are focusing on social housing and the use of existing buildings. We are aiming for a quota of 20% for social housing. In addition to state and municipal housing facilities, this also includes private housing facilities that adhere to the municipal guidelines on pricing.
As new construction alone is not enough, we are calling for additional tax to be levied on long-term vacant apartments. Revenues from this tax should flow into a fund to promote the refurbishment of existing buildings and the creation of social housing.
Public Transport

The traffic situation in Cologne is frustrating for everyone. The streets are full, it takes forever to find a parking space, cycle paths - when available - are unsafe and the KVB is unreliable as always. We are convinced that the solution is a much stronger focus on public transportation. With efficient, reliable services, fewer people will be dependent on a car for their daily journeys. There will be less congestion and more space for safe cycling infrastructure.
To this end, we are specifically calling for the expansion of the KVB streetcar lines, especially underground, as the majority of disruptions are due to problems on the roads, as well as better connections to the outer city areas.
Homelessness

Like many other large cities in NRW, Cologne has an obvious problem with homelessness.
In the fight against homelessness in Cologne, we follow the motto "Housing First". In this model, homeless people are initially provided with a safe home unconditionally. This gives those affected the security they need to work with social workers to tackle the problems that led to their homelessness.
We are also calling for a reduction in bureaucracy in order to give homeless people access to resources that are already available today.
